THERE NOT HERE (Tāmaki Makaurau by Night)
New shows broadcasting at 7pm on second Wednesday of each month.
There Not Here is a monthly broadcast of field recordings on AFM. Each edition is organised around a theme chosen by Tash van Schaardenburg, Jimmy Solórzano, Sam Longmore and Xin Cheng, artists working with and in relation to field recording in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa. In response, each of these artists produces a selection of recordings over the course of a month.
The theme for the first There Not Here broadcast was ‘Tāmaki Makaurau by Night’, suggested by Jimmy Solórzano. This show was first broadcast from 7pm on Wednesday 17 March. Responding to this theme, Jimmy made recordings of suburban backyard ambiences, the North Western Motorway on a Saturday evening, and during a stroll along Dominion Road. In recordings of overnight roadworks and boisterous drama Tash explored the post-lockdown mood of the central city, and Sam, in collaboration with artist Melanie Küng, has surveyed the nocturnal sonic variety of Morningside’s Fowlds Park.
